Synopsis
Sacristans do everything to prepare the altar for Mass. They will make sure the candles are lit, the bread and wine is prepared, the ciborium/cups are ready and the celebrant’s books are ready. Depending on the day may need to acknowledge special feast days or other liturgical rituals and prepare properly. Training provided.
Requirements
1. Membership in parish one year (at pastor's discretion but encouraged from point of view of fidelity to the community one wishes to serve.)
2. Men or women who are, acknowledged by peers and pastor to be an active Catholic in good standing with the Roman Catholic Church.
3. Sacramental reception: Must have received the sacraments of Baptism, Holy Communion and Confirmation in the Roman Catholic Church.
4. Called to Protect/Safe Environment Training with recertification every 2 years. (www.safeenvironmenttraining.org)
5. Six hours of on-going formation each year (can be retreats, concerts, bible study, etc.)
